Welcome to the summer of 2025, Studio K! It’s hard to imagine that it’s already June…and next month will mark the halfway point of the whole year?! Perhaps even crazier (and definitely more exciting as far as we’re concerned), is the rapidly approaching anniversary of our incredible, supportive, and loving Studio K community – can you believe we’ve been living it up and dancing our hearts out together for nearly 15 years?!
In honor of our upcoming celebration, we thought we’d use The Backdrop Blog space this month to show off some of our special fun facts and highlights that you just may not know. As always, if you’ve been waiting for a sign to try something new and pursue adult dance classes near Orlando, this is it! So learn a bit more about our history, and then visit our monthly schedule to find the class that's meant for you!
Fun Fact #1: We’ve Been on TV...
And not just on many local news stations throughout the years! Legend has it that if you pause Season 1, Episode 8 of Dance Moms – “Love on the Dance Floor,” beginning riiight around the 1:06 minute mark, you’ll see a very familiar logo! That’s right: the Abby Lee of the cutthroat Abby Lee Dance Company (ALDC) took her team to Orlando for the Starpower National Talent Competition in 2011 and she and the entire cast used our very own Studio K (the first location we ever opened!) to rehearse and to film before the event. (See Studio K on the episode here)!

Our space may look a bit different now, but aside from location changes and studio updates (however, see if you can spot our iconic Broadway mural, same dance floor, music stand and more!), much is still the same – particularly when it comes to the welcoming environment we aim to create. I don’t know about you, but I sure am grateful to walk in and see Kristin or Michelle’s smiling face rather than the intimidating glare of Ms. Abby Lee…
Also, speaking of TV coverage, did you know that Studio K once attempted to break the Guinness World Record for largest Burlesque Dance?! Dozens of Central Florida ladies (and reporters!) showed up for the challenge and you can see an example of TV coverage from that day on WESH 2 News here!

Fun Fact #2: We’ve Hosted Touring Broadway Stars (from Some of the Biggest Hit Shows!)
You already know how much we love our Musical Theatre classes and our Broadway-esque workshops we offer on Fridays, but did you know that we’ve also worked with actual Broadway stars to give professional Master Classes? From hit touring shows like The Lion King, Aladdin, Hamilton, Mean Girls, and more, Studio K dancers have been blessed with the opportunity to take classes from the very best in the business!
Fun Fact #3: Studio K Hosted the First Flash Mob in Orlando
Considering Studio K has been around now for nearly a decade and a half, it should come as no surprise that we created the very first flash mob in the Orlando area – right when the trend was just starting to gain traction on social media. We took charge of producing dance-centered, large-scale events for notable performance venues and other popular spaces in Central Florida! This includes The Amway Center (before it was renamed to The Kia Center), Millenia Mall, the Orange County Convention Center, and even coordinated and performed a “Footloose” dance mob in downtown Orlando for the opening night of a Kenny Loggins concert! (See the video here)! You just never know when Studio K will be bringing this trend back again!

Fun Fact #4: We Have Close Ties With Superstars
More than just Abby Lee and acclaimed stars from touring Broadway productions, we are so lucky to have worked with Jessica Sutta – one of the founding members of the chart-topping (the early 2000’s were a whole vibe, ok?!) girl group, The Pussycat Dolls! We have been so honored to welcome Jessica to our lovely Studio K space twice when she launched her personal female empowerment class aptly named, “The Sutta Strut.” (See video of Jessica’s first visit here).

In addition to Broadway and music industry fame, Studio K has also hosted numerous special guests within the dance and fitness spaces. Some of the most notable include:
Anna-Rita Sloss, the creator of HOT HULA Fitness - a 60-minute, full-body, dance-powered workout.
Casie “Tynee” Goshow and Megz Alfonso (as well as countless other dancers) from So You Think You Can Dance.
Conrad Pratt, a performer most notably known as the Dance Captain and one of only eight dancers selected for a world tour with Ricky Martin (but he’s also been in numerous shows including Glee, Hawaii Five-O, Rescue HI-Surf, and more!)
The Fitness Marshall - social media workout sensation, The Fitness Marshall, visited Studio K’s current location to host one jam-packed class event!
Meesha Garbett, the mega-viral “Red Beret Girl” from the 2022 film adaptation of Matilda, also visited our current home and recently taught Studio K dancers the famous hall dance scene that’s received over ten million views across social platforms!
Fun Fact #5: Our Dance Floor Has Hosted Some of the Industry’s Greatest Feet
When we first opened nearly 15 years ago, the incredibly talented (and local to Orlando!) Mind 180 Breakdance Crew were the first to bless our very same dance floor with their phenomenal skills, thus beginning our long history of partnering with the best to give the best. We have also proudly hosted the Orlando auditions for iconic dance films such as Step Up 2 and Rock of Ages! (See the secret footage from Mind180’s amazing audition for Step Up 2!)

Since 2010, Kristin has been committed to not only engaging our local arts community here in Orlando, but also leveraging her career connections and relationships with national and global performers to ensure Studio K receives high-quality, professional-level instruction and unique opportunities – all without ever compromising the mission-driven importance of our community tag line, The Floor is Yours! Over the last 15 years, our floor has genuinely become a part of every single person who has left their footprint not only in our home, but also into the heart and soul foundation of our Studio K legacy that has many, many more years to come!
