September Members of the Month!

A special feature by Katie Davis

At Studio K, we truly cherish our members and their love of fitness and dance. Amy and Rebecca are great examples of the amazing people we have in our family today. As sisters, they’ve embarked on a journey to discover the love of dance and fitness together. Their care and support of each other mirror the values we hold dear at Studio K and we know you will be inspired by their journeys, just as we were.

Thank you to Amy and Rebecca for their dedication and passion. We are so grateful to have you be a part of our Studio K Family!

KD: Why did you choose Studio K as your choice dance/fitness studio?

Amy: Our neighbor told my sister about it and she tried it and came home and raved about how much she loved it so, I tried it too.

Rebecca: It’s right down the street from my house, and I was looking for a workout that was not your typical gym experience.

KD: Can you describe your first experience attending a class at Studio K?

Amy: I THINK my first class was Miguel’s Zumba class. Honestly, the first time, I thought I was going to die but when I realized I didn’t die, I thought I could probably do it again and get better at not dying in a cardio class. Lol

Rebecca: I went with my neighbor who was always raving about classes at Studio K and how they were outside of the box, so thought I would give it a try.

KD: In your opinion, what makes Studio K different from other dance/fitness options?

Amy: I just feel really comfortable there. Everyone there is a friend and you don’t have to have a perfect, fit body to feel like you belong.

Rebecca: Studio K is like a family. They don’t see you as just another number or membership. They treat you like a VIP all the time.

KD: What was the first class you ever took at Studio K?

Amy: Miguel’s Zumba class

Rebecca: POUND with Aileen was my first class ever and it kicked my butt!! I tried other classes before going back to that one.

KD: What is your favorite class to take at Studio K and why?

Amy: I absolutely love Britney’s MixxedFit class. I know I can’t dance… I really go for the cardio and to get sweaty, but in my mind, I’m totally gangsta.

Rebecca: This is a difficult question because I truly love all of the classes that I take there. I love Zumba with Miguel because he is so high energy and positive and makes me so happy. I love POUND with Aileen because she is motivating and fun to work out with and it’s a great class to de-stress, plus the music ROCKS. I love MixxedFit with Brittney because she is so much fun to be around and her energy is infectious. I love Rock and Box with Chris because he pushes me to go beyond what I think I can do. He believes in me and that is what keeps me going back each week

KD: Did you have a dance/fitness background before coming to Studio K?

Amy: I mean, my mom had me in dance when I was a kid but the real answer to this question is no, I have no dance or fitness background at all. Rebecca: I only took dance class when I was little and then was a cheerleader in high school, but it’s been many years since I did any of that.

KD: Which class have you not tried yet, but are looking forward to trying in the future?

Amy: I really stick to the cardio classes… I like to send my sister in first and get a report, then I try something new. I like when new things are on the schedule to try out.

Rebecca: There are a lot of classes that I have not tried, but I love trying new classes when they get put on the schedule. I mostly do the fitness classes though.

KD: What advice do you have for people who want to try dance/fitness classes, but are hesitant/nervous?

Amy: Just do it. After the first time, you realize there was nothing to be nervous about and you just keep coming back.

Rebecca: This is the best place to try dance/fitness classes. I was nervous at first too, but Studio K and the whole team here is so welcoming and positive. It is truly a no judgement zone! You feel like family instantly.

KD: In a few words, what does Studio K mean to you?

Amy: Studio K has helped me make a healthy change in my life and I can see the difference and I like it so, thank you for what you have done for me!

Rebecca: Studio K is a fun way to burn calories while hanging out with your friends. You don’t even realize that you’re working out because it’s so much fun.

KD: Is there anything else you would like to add about yourself/your time with Studio K?

Amy: I truly look forward to seeing all the people there that have become friends. It’s just more fun at Studio K.

Rebecca: Since I have started going to Studio K, I have lost 50 pounds and gained so many friends and self-confidence. I would not trade my time there for anything.

Bonus Questions!

KD: If you could only eat one thing for the rest of your life, what would it be and why?

Amy: My favorite food is fried catfish and I never get tired of it. I grew up in New Orleans so, I’m all about seafood.

Rebecca: Probably olives. Green, black, Kalamata, stuffed, fried, I love them all.

KD: If you were going to a deserted island and could only bring three things that are currently in your house right now, what would it be and why? (this could be something practical or sentimental)

Amy: Does my dog count? I’d have to have her with me. Then I’d have to have sunblock because I’m a redhead and I burn like nobody’s business and flip flops because they can get wet and what other kind of shoes would you wear on a deserted island?

Rebecca: Charlotte (my Chihuahua/Mexican daughter), bottled water, my floating chair for the water, I guess.

KD: Would you rather be stuck in a snowstorm without heat or stuck in a heat wave without air conditioning?

Amy: I’d say a snowstorm without heat because I know the misery of being in the heat without a/c but I’ve never been in snow so, I don’t know that misery and I can always layer up.

Rebecca: This is a difficult question, but I think a heatwave because at least I could lose weight with all of the sweating, and go to the pool to cool off, but I feel like I could never get warm enough to survive a snowstorm since I can barely survive Florida winters.
