Orlando, FL, September 15, 2021 – On Saturday, September 18, local dance and fitness studio, Studio K (www.studiokorlando.com), will serve as an official campus location for the city of Orlando’s celebration of National Dance Day (NDD). This will be Studio K’s seventh year participating, and the studio will offer a variety of free classes to teens and adults.
NDD Orlando proudly celebrates dance and the arts within the Orlando community with classes for all ages. Additional official campus locations this year will include: Emotions Dance Studio (www.emotionsdance.org), and Arts for Heart (housed at Studio K location), an organization offering dance to children with special needs.
Established in 2010 by American Dance Movement (ADM) co-founder and So You Think You Can Dance co-creator, Nigel Lythgoe, as well as Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton, NDD is an annual celebration dedicated to dance that encourages Americans of all ages to incorporate dance into their lives. By creating a focused day of celebration to show support for dance as a valuable form of exercise and of artistic expression, ADM aims to educate the public about dance and its many benefits, as well as to make dance accessible and inclusive to everyone.
ADM believes that participation in dance connects the mind and body, promotes health and wellbeing, connects us with others, and enables us to find joy through dance and movement. NDD is a day of celebrating dance, in all its forms, and takes place annually on the third Saturday in September.
Due to the ongoing challenges of COVID-19, health and safety is the top priority again this year for NDD in Orlando, therefore both locations are limiting class sizes, and adhering to a variety of protocols. “Although we are still greatly impacted by the effects of COVID-19 in our community, it was important to all to honor our commitment of this annual tradition to not only highlight the importance of dance and the arts in Central Florida, but to safely offer a positive activity.” said Kristin Weissman, Founder and CEO of Studio K. “A little extra happiness is always needed,” Weissman continued, “and dance brings everyone together in a fun, supportive way.”
"Studio K is the leader in what inclusive dance fitness can mean for our community,” said Kaileigh Anne Tayek, Director CFC Arts School of Arts & Health. “With their unique programming, and come one-and-all atmosphere, they truly represent what it means to be a creative and healthy fitness community. CFCArts firmly believes the arts are essential to well-being. We support Studio K in their mission to make dance and fitness accessible to everyone. Now more than ever, it is time to take care of both our physical and emotional health. At Studio K, they encourage both healthy physical activity and empower people to express themselves creatively. CFCArts is proud to support Studio K in the National Dance Day initiative."
Lesa Boettcher, COO of the Foundation for a Healthier West Orange, further added, "Regular activity is one of the building blocks of a healthy lifestyle, and dancing is a wonderful, inclusive activity for all ages. So on National Dance Day, Healthy West Orange is inviting all of our friends and followers to get their groove on with Studio K!”
Guests may currently register for classes at Studio K and the other locations through the NDD Orlando website: www.nationaldancedayorlando.org.
