January Member of the Month - Heather Terry!

It’s a brand new year and a brand new month to highlight and to celebrate the amazing members of Studio K! This month, we are so honored to profile Heather Terry! Heather brings so much passion for dance to Studio K and a true commitment to her training. She is also one of the kindest, most generous people, and we are so grateful to have her in our Family! Our studio fur love, Bella, is also a big Heather fan! :-) Read below to learn a little more about Heather and her experiences with Studio K!

SK: Why did you choose Studio K as your best choice for a dance/fitness studio?

HT: I had been searching for a dance studio that offered drop in classes for all levels. Studio K was close to where I live and the reviews were great, so I gave it a try and haven’t stopped dancing there since!

SK: In your opinion, what makes Studio K different from other dance/fitness options?

HT: I love that it is specifically for adults because it’s a very unique feature that I personally wanted in a studio. The atmosphere is very inviting and I never felt intimidated. I love how there is so much diversity and how people on all different levels can come together.

SK: When did you join Studio K as a member?

HT: I think I joined late 2018 or maybe early 2019 but it feels like so much longer! It’s been one of the best decisions I’ve ever made!

SK: Can you describe your first experience attending a class at Studio K? Which class did you try?

HT: I remember my very first class was one of Jaime’s tap classes. I was really nervous because I didn’t know what to expect and I hadn’t tapped in a little while, so I wasn’t sure if I would be on the same level as everybody else. I loved how nice and inviting everyone was. I felt like this was a place I could fit in. Jaime was so kind and patient with me from day 1. I loved the upbeat music and the structure of the class. I felt so accomplished afterwards and I decided I would come back the next day for Musical Theatre. And from that day on, I haven’t stopped going to those two classes and more!

SK: What is your favorite class to take at Studio K and why?

HT: My personal favorite class is Tap. It’s my favorite style of dance and it always challenges me. I love the rhythms and connection to music that you have to have in tap!

SK: Did you have a dance/fitness background before coming to Studio K?

HT: I really only started dancing in college while I was studying theatre. But, before that, I was always involved in sports, my favorite was horseback riding.

SK: Which class have you not tried yet, but are looking forward to trying in the future?

HT: I think this year I will commit to trying Contemporary and Hip Hop! I love both of those styles of dance and I think it would be a fun challenge for me!

SK: What advice do you have for people who want to try Studio K, but are hesitant/nervous?

HT: Don’t be afraid to put yourself out there. The classes are really made for YOU! Everyone is so supportive and really want you to have a good time! It’s not about how perfect you are, it’s about expressing yourself through dance or fitness!

SK: Do you have a favorite instructor and is there any advice or guidance they have shared that has stuck with you?

HT: My favorite instructor is Ms. Jaime. She always has such a positive attitude and her passion for dance is infectious. She always encourages everyone to just be themselves and to be present on the dance floor!

SK: In a few words, what does Studio K mean to you?

HT: Studio K really has become like a second home for me. I look forward to the classes every week and they have often been the only source of light in my life. Studio K has boosted my confidence so much and I am forever grateful.

SK: We know that you also have another life outside of Studio K! What type of work do you do?

HT: I work as an account manager for an insurance company! I get to help people every day and I love it! Outside of work, I of course love to dance, but I also love sewing and embroidery, going to the theme parks and spending time with my family!

SK: Is there anything else you would like to add about yourself/your time with Studio K or what you would like others to know about the studio?

HT: I would love to just say that “thank you” does not even begin to describe my gratitude to Studio K. It has made such a positive impact on my life that I don’t think anything else could have given me. Having Studio K as an outlet has brought me out of some dark places and I don’t know where I would be without it! Thank you to all the staff and instructors for your hard work, passion, and support! You don’t know how much it truly means to me.

On behalf of our entire Studio K Team, our warmest congratulations and a huge THANK YOU to Heather for all that she brings to our world!
